NVMTA Launches the Suburban Mobility Working Group
In keeping with our mission to reduce traffic and provide more transportation options for our members, the Neponset Valley TMA has helped to launch the
Suburban Mobility Working Group (SMWG). First beginning as part of roundtable discussions from our
Transportation Gaps and Unmet Needs Forum
held at Gillette Stadium this past spring, it became quickly apparent there was a need for concentrated attention and championing of innovative commuting options for the suburban areas of Canton, Dedham, Foxboro, Norwood, and Westwood, MA. SMWG is now fully underway and looking for interested participants to join our efforts.
A Successful First Meeting
On May 30, 2018 we kicked-off the official start of our group and conducted our first SMWG meeting at
Foxboro Town Hall. We expanded on the original roundtable discussions from the Bridging Transportation Gaps Forum about business and community mobility gaps and unmet needs of our region. Participants outlined essential elements of a group mission statement as well as developed a target list of upcoming transportation projects in our area. Subsequent meetings will determine the priority of our project list and designate project leaders with actionable attention to improved economic development and social inclusion in our area's transportation efforts.
Improving Your Transportation Options
Some of our current projects include the
Foxborough Commuter Rail Pilot, expanding Reverse Commute options, and affordability of service for low-income populations. SMWG will collaborate on tackling infrastructure and a broad array of transportation challenges facing suburban communities. The group will formulate recommendations for improvements to state and local transportation agencies.
All Are Welcome
SMWG is comprised of individuals passionate about making transportation available to everyone everywhere. Our current group includes representatives from local municipalities, social service agencies, Councils on Aging, the business community, and regional transportation service providers. It is only by working together and pooling our resources can we bring focus to transportation initiatives in our area and illicit real changes.
